Zilker, Barton Springs Park, and Texas Hill Country
Did you really think we’d only cover metropolitan Texas and leave out the sprawling green areas? Here’s our take on getting out of the concrete and experiencing the great outdoors.
Zilker is right outside the city, and requires almost no travel, but is very much an area for locals. In that neck of the woods you will find the beautiful Barton Springs Park. Beyond that, you will slowly wade into rolling hills of famous Texas countryside–beautiful drives included.
Beloved for its green spaces and laid-back vibe, Zilker can please outdoor enthusiasts, young professionals, families, and tourists. Its outdoor livelihood abounds, with expansive parks, and beautiful walking and biking trails. On a blazing Texas day, there’s no other place to go than Barton Springs Park–a massive, outdoor pool that’s entirely spring-fed. It maintains a consistent temp of sixty-eight degrees Fahrenheit year round. But when it’s sizzling at over 110 degrees in Texas sunshine, 68 is a beautiful thing.
Texas Hill Country
When you hear the name Fredericksburg, the state of Texas probably doesn’t come to mind. However, Texas Hill Country has a healthy German population, with little towns like this one speckling the map with amazing food. Take a trip out here and enjoy their extensive outdoor life–like year round biking and hiking–as well as their eclectic arts community, unique food, and wineries.
If you don’t want to go south of the Austin, you can also enjoy Hill Country in the west and northwest directions. Lake Travis and Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge are a beautiful drive from Austin, and will give travelers a scenic road trip out of the city.
Travaasa Austin is a Hill Country resort and spa that will cover not only your lodging needs, but also many of your Texas adventure desires. Set within one of the most beautiful areas of Texas, you really don’t have to go anywhere if you don’t want to. This resort has been voted one of the top hotels in the world for a reason. Go horseback riding, hiking, sightseeing, and then pick fresh vegetables in the resort farm. After a day of fun, relax at their award-winning spa.
South Congress Hotel
As a boutique spot not far from Zilker and Barton Springs Park, South Congress Hotel is perfect for people who want to explore areas outside of Austin, but also want easy downtown access. On a hot day, go for a stroll at Zilker and then dip into Barton Springs for a swim. After hours in the sun, sip a frozen drink at South Congress’ rooftop bar and pool–because if it’s still hot (hello, Texas), you can dive into water yet again.
Kimber Modern is an ultra-sleek complement to the rustic Texas landscape. This modern, boutique hotel is a bright and eco-friendly place to call home when you want to enjoy the great outdoors. After all, why have an earthy vacation only to stay at a not-so-green hotel? This spot is doing its duty to keep Texas beautiful and makes getting around easy thanks to its central location.
Omni Barton Creek Resort and Spa
Omni Barton Creek Resort and Spa is perfect for discerning, athletic travelers. Golfers, we’re looking at you. Considered some of the best golf in Texas, the four courses at this hotel might prevent you from ever wanting to venture out on a road trip. As will their spa, massages, pool, and lounge. We urge you, though, to take the day trip out into Hill Country at least once, it’s well worth it.
