A Different Kind of Festival
July 8th, 2017
Let’s face it: Not everyone likes to be in a crowd of thousands listening to music they can find on the radio.
Full Moon Fest is the solution to your problem. This boutique music festival by Matte Projects, one of NYC’s finest creative teams, is coming into their seventh-year edition–with no signs of slowing down. And they have the kind of music you can’t find anywhere else.
Descend onto Governors Island on July 8th this summer to join a sonic-minded crowd for a day of discovering the best talent in underground music. This year’s lineup is the best so far. Performances will include: House music legend Larry Heard; Awesome Tapes From Africa; the Brazilian wonder Selvagem; and master of the ten-hour party, DJ Harvey. They will be joined by Vic Mensa, Kelela, Abra, Tops, Connan Mockasin, Donna Leake, Jeremy Underground, and many more.
Where to Stay
A boutique festival goes hand-in-hand with a boutique hotel. We picked our favorite places to stay within Brooklyn and Manhattan’s coolest blocks for you.
If you’re looking for an upscale but cool option in the Lower East Side, close to everything from the Ferry to Governors Island to countless shops, bars, and eateries… then consider Sixty LES. Here, sleek interiors meet a friendly, knowledgable staff, plus an outdoor pool and tiki bar. But don’t let the term ‘upscale’ fool you–you’ll find great rates that beat most run-of-the-mill NYC hotels here.
The Standard, East Village
Located in the epicenter of New York’s Downtown Culture, The Standard East Village is a favorite amongst travelers and locals alike. We love having a bite at Narcissa or enjoying a quiet drink at their Garden. Their sleek rooms with massive windows provide a glimpse of the neighboring buildings. Keep an eye out for special programming featuring some of the best in art, music, film, and fashion.
Williamsburg’s newest hotel on the fast-growing Wythe Avenue strip is the talk of the town. Fresh baked goods, a rooftop pool, cellar bar, food pop-ups, hotel bar and restaurant, and even a water-tower bar are some of the perks that come with your stay. We’re sure you also won’t mind the beautifully decorated rooms, specialized toiletries, and even free rental bikes.
NU Hotel Brooklyn
The original boutique hotel in Downtown Brooklyn, where guests are treated to a slice of the local scene via decor, local wines, and lots of Brooklyn personality in the neighborhood. You’ll love to settle into a hammock or hang out in one of their 93 loft-inspired rooms. NU Hotel feels a bit like home away from home, and we love them for it.
